★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best croissants you'll ever eat won't come from a fabled Parisian bakery or a trendy outdoor café in Venice overlooking the Grand Canal. My vote goes to the Hotel Kugel in Vienna, which bakes and steams it's XL sized, flaky wonderments daily. The rest of the complimentary breakfast, including award winning local fruit juices, is just as carefully chosen, prepared, and tasty.
Located within walking distance of Vienna's best shopping and most of the major museums, trolleys also make stops across the street connecting you to the vast subway system. Second generation local owner Johannes Roller and his Christina will help you sort out and make reservations for all your entertainment needs (almost endless), and Johannes is more knowledgeable on Wien's rich history and culture than any half dozen local tour guides. Maybe the best part is that the Euros you'll save by skipping or eating a light lunch and not taking expensive taxis everywhere can be spent to upscale your culinary choices for dinner and entertainment.
Highly recommended, but book early - there are only 25 rooms, most of which have been recently renovated with updated bathroom amenities.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If it weren't for Johann, this would only rate 3 stars - he's a super-cool guy who made us feel very welcome and was very well informed and sharing with information on where to go, places to find food, and most of all just keeping peoples expectations real. He is an amazingly good host, and seemed to do everything from running the front desk, setting the tables for breakfast, to everything in between. The room's on the street (and I think they all are?) are aged, but well kept and their downfall comes from the 49 tram just outside which runs all night and made our room pretty noisy. We walked so much around town that we slept thru the worst of it, but it was noisy nonetheless. However - having a tram at your doorstep is exceptionally handy when wanting to run downtown so you balance the good with the bad. For the price we paid, (and the wonderful included breakfast), it was a very good deal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We found Hotel Kugel by coincidence after a bad Airbnb experience. The hotel facilities are very limited (rooms and the restaurant downstairs) but it has all you need. Big room, confortable and clean beds. Tiny bathrooms though. It seems that the bathrooms were "added" afterwards, and they have a toilet and a shower, with very limited space. The location is amazing, 15 minutes walk from Innerstadt. Quiet neighborhood with markets nearby.
Breakfast: choice of cold cuts (2-3), scrambeled eggs and boiled eggs, croissants, breads, yogourt, cereal, jams, tea and coffee. Excellent quality and very plentyfull!
Service is very friendly and personalized. We always felt welcome.
I recommend hotel Kugel very much for the people that look for comfort, service, location and excellent value.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our stay at Hotel Kugel was very enjoyable. Great value- less expensive than many chain hotels in Vienna, and it has spacious, comfortable rooms only a short walk away from major tourist destinations like Hofburg Palace and the Museum Quarter. Stafd was very helpful in assisting us with using the tram lines and giving directions. I would happily stay here again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hotel Kugel is located very close to the Museum District, and easy to get to and from via public transit.
The room was very clean, comfortable, and elegantly styled. Small by US standards, but a very efficient use of space.
The breakfast was fresh and delicious. The staff were absolutely great. Very knowledgeable, polite, and helpful.
Would recommend to anyone wanting to visit Vienna for a self-guided tour on foot & by public transit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent customer service - all the staff greeted us and we're really keen to help us find our way. The breakfast was fabulous and the room quirky. Although it's by a bus and tram line, the house was barely noticeable from inside and the hotel is a good distance from the centre.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had 2 rooms, The larger room on the 3rd floor was really nice done up in an Asian motif. Really nice with these beautiful big windows that opened up. The smaller room that only slept one was habitable but definitely nothing to write home about (it would have been better if it was modernized). But the breakfast buffet was great. The staff were super nice. The location of the hotel was also great.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had a lovely stay at this hotel. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff is amicable and professional. Another thing we enjoyed was the breakfast. I would advise the hotel to supply soy or almond milk as well. The location is conveniently close to the inner city and we could reach the underground in 10 minutes max. If you want to park your car, there is a public paid parking nearby for which the hotel supplies a discount. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.
