Austria ?? I went to Bösendorfer's piano factory ?, which is one of the three famous pianos in Vienna. Excellent technicians made the piano precisely and carefully one by one. It was divided into each department and each person in charge, and it was an assembly line. It is important to dry the wood over and over again, and it takes a considerable amount of time. Also, when assembling, I took a closer look at the inside such as the fine hammer inside. When you press a piano keyboard, the force is transmitted to the hammer, which strikes the strings, and a plate called the "soundboard" spreads the sound emitted from the strings. There are 88 piano keys, and about 8000 parts are used throughout the piano! When these parts work together well, they create the three major elements of music: melody, harmony, and rhythm. Soundboard production We will create a "soundboard" that resonates the sound produced when you hit the piano. Logs collected from various places are processed into plates and dried. Depending on the item, it may be dried for 10 years or more. After it has dried sufficiently, the boards are joined together to form a single soundboard. Prop assembly, installation of pieces and sound sticks The thin plates are pasted together to form the pillars that form the base of the piano. After that, the "piece" that transmits the vibration of the strings to the soundboard and the "sound stick" that supports the sound are mechanically glued to the soundboard. Soundboard, side plate adhesive The work of placing the soundboard on a support and adhering it. This adhesion affects the sound of the sound, so it is an important process. We will process the pieces and glue the side plates to the columns. Painting and drying It is painted over and over again and dried for a period of time in a computer-controlled drying room. Polishing (side plate) Polishing is repeated by humans and machines until it becomes glossy and brilliant. Installation of shelves and frames (outer frame) Attach the shelf board on which the keyboard etc. is placed, and attach the frame. The frame receives the tension of the strings and vibrates with the strings to affect the sound. Zhang string, lower tuning Tighten about 230 strings. In order to adapt each part to the tension of the stretched strings, a special transmitter is used to perform sub-tuning. Assembling and installing actions Actions, which are structures that convey the movement of the keyboard to the hammer, are assembled by robots and human hands on each specialized line. When attaching the action and keyboard to the shelves, subtle adjustments are made to align the hammer exactly as it strikes the strings. Tuning, adjustment, tuning Performs "tuning" to check and adjust the tone of the sound. Thousands of strings are then machined to blend each part with the strings, hammers, keyboards, and parts that connect to the action. Also, adjust the entire action while adjusting the striking distance of the hammer and the height of the keyboard. Tuning is performed again, and "tuning" is performed to make the sound quality and volume of the piano uniform. Finishing and shipping After performing the final tuning and tuning work, the grand piano is completed after checking the exterior and other parts. After that, it will be packed tightly and shipped.
