★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent service, food and atmosphere. The restaurant could easily be a tourist trap on the busy road near to Hallstättersee but it is in no way anything close. The different menu options are refreshing when you've eaten too much schnitzel and traditional Austrian fare but variations on these are also on offer and are also excellent. Some of the meals come with a theatrical flair which is intriguing to watch and will certainly tempt us back in the future. Don't be put off by queues outside like we were almost, as the service is simply outstanding and the staff are very attentive. Ausgezeichnet Team Steegwirt!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This has been the second visit and the overall experience was again outstanding. The Rinderrouladen were like grandma's super tasty and tender. The Backhendl crisp and tasty. Simple food well done!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I think this restaurant deserves a 3/5 but since its overated I give it a 1/5.
We had the roasted pork and we were very disappointed. The sauce was oversalted, the dumpling not good at all and we had only half a potato each (so little ...). They brought the hot plates so early that the plates were cold when we finally got our food. The spoon they gave me was very dirty with leftover chocolate on it, not professional ...
The place however was nice but it is clearly overpriced and the food could be much better. The problem is that there are no other restaurants in the area ...
Very easy to open a restaurant here and become the new best restaurant in the area ???

The food I had was delicious and by the amount of people inside, it is lucky I got in without reservation.
Some items are suggested verbally and u need to ask about pricing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Food was great but atmosphere not so great for a family with young children......felt like we were not made so welcome because of the kids.....Otherwise I couldn't fault or complain about the food as we thoroughly enjoyed it all. Roast pork I'd give 10 ☆ was amazing ???? to the kitchen 4 stars only for the uncomfortable feeling whilst there

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place was a life saver, because I was hiking around Hallstättersee with my girlfriend with very little hope of finding food, and there it was, all nice and imposing.
It’s quite big and looks very nice in its wooden construction.
Best. Potato. Soup. Ever. For real. It was SO tasty. I don’t know if my taste perception was changed because I was starved and tired, but it was so flavorful. Schnitzel wasn’t anything special, and the rice was kinda bland.
We also ordered Glühwein because we wanted the warm, comforting feeling it always brings, but theirs had something weird in it and tasted very very bitter. We couldn’t finish.
Otherwise it’s a pretty nice place for a stop for hikers and travelers alike, and it was open, unlike everything else around ?
