Hauptaufgabe der Burg war die Kontrolle des Murtales sowie die Sicherung einer wichtigen Straße, die vom Raabtal in das Murtal führte. 1652 wurde die Burg an das Stift Vorau verkauft und befindet sich die Ruine noch heute im Besitz des Stiftes. Zur Zeit wird diese restauriert und wieder bewohnbar gemacht. Da sich die Ruine im Privatbesitz befindet und offensichtlich auch bewohnt wird, ist eine Besichtigung leider nicht nicht möglich. Den Besucher entschädigt jedoch die wunderbare Landschaft dafür und bietet Erholung und Entspannung pur. The Burg Peggau was built in the 12th century.
