Murtaler steam train. I had no idea how little steam and how much smoke that was. Leisurely hour drive, definitely recommended.

F	Frank Mateman on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wij hebben ons laten verleiden om vanaf Murau met een ouderwetse stoomlocomotief naar Tamsweg en retour te gaan. Een rit enkele reis van ongeveer anderhalf uur. Ondanks dat we laat in het seizoen zaten, was de trein erg vol. Gelukkig hadden we plaatsen gereserveerd. Wel vraag ik me af of het aantal toegestane passagiers ook door het personeel in de gaten gehouden wordt. De kaartjes vonden we ondanks 30% korting toch nog erg duur. De rit ging door een prachtig landschap. Het geluid van de stoomlocomotief voert je terug naar vervlogen tijden. Daarbij wordt je ook met de neus op het feit gedrukt dat je blij mag zijn dat we niet veem meer van deze locomotieven gebruik maken. De kolen gestookte locomotief stoot behoorlijk zwarte rook uit. De roet delen troffen we met de geopende ramen op onze huid en kleding aan. En de stank niet te vergeten. Kortom niet goed voor het milieu. In Tamsweg hadden we ongeveer anderhalf uur oponthoud. Net genoeg tijd om op het mooie marktplein te lunchen. Daarna weer de hele rit terug. Achteraf vonden wij deze rit veel te lang. Voor ons was dit de eerste en laatste kennismaking met dit soort vervoermiddel. Eens maar nooit weer. We were tempted to go from Murau with an old-fashioned steam locomotive to Tamsweg and back. A one-way ride of approximately one and a half hours. Although we were late in the season, the train was very full. Fortunately we had reserved places. I do wonder if the number of passengers allowed is also monitored by the staff. Despite 30% discount, we found the tickets still very expensive. The ride went through a beautiful landscape. The sound of the steam locomotive takes you back to days gone by. In addition, you are also pressed with the nose that you can be happy that we no longer use these locomotives. The coal-fired locomotive emits considerable black smoke. We found the soot parts with our open windows on our skin and clothing. And not to forget the smell. In short, not good for the environment. In Tamsweg we had a delay of about an hour and a half. Just enough time to have lunch on the beautiful market square. Then the whole ride back. In retrospect, we found this ride far too long. For us this was the first and last introduction to this type of transport. Once but never again.

Sogar mit Musik: ein extrem guter Harmonikaspieler ging durch die Waggons und spielte neben volkstümlichen Melodien auch anspruchsvolle Konzertstücke. Ein echter Profi, super! Das "Kleine Dampfen" war sehr nett, die Strecke und die Landschaft drumherum sind sehenswert und der Harmonika-Spieler konnte echt was ... auch mit ihm Plaudern war lustig. Very committed employees who are very connected to "their railroad".
