Die Dame von der Jausenstation war sehr zuvorkommend und alles ist sauber und in gutem Zustand. Eine Reise wert! An extremely beautifully preserved castle ruin, which sits wildly and originally in the landscape and is worth a visit. H	H K on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Eindrucksvoll, gut gepflegt, man darf überall hin (wichtig für Kinder aller Altersstufen). Für die Kleinen gibt's innerhalb der Burgmauern eine Spielburg, für die Großen eine Jausenstation. Wer auf die Türme raufwill und nicht sinnlos durch die Gegend laufen möchte, holt sich die (!) Schlüssel gleich beim Eingang, von der freundlichen Dame an der Jausenstation. Großartiger Ausblick von beiden Türmen. Man kann bis vors Burgtor mit dem Auto fahren, ist aber nichts für Nervöse, da die Zufahrt sowohl extrem steil, als auch schmal und dazu kurvenreich ist. Nur eine Handvoll Parkplätze oben! Eintritt ist frei, aber man wirft gerne etwas in die Spendenkassa. Impressive, well cared for, you can go anywhere (important for children of all ages). For the little ones there is a play castle within the castle walls, for the big ones there is a snack station. If you want to climb the towers and don't want to run around senselessly, you can get the (!) Key right at the entrance from the friendly lady at the snack bar. Great views from both towers. You can drive up to the castle gate, but it is not for the nervous, as the driveway is extremely steep, narrow and winding. Only a handful of parking spaces upstairs! Admission is free, but people like to throw something into the donation box.

Kollmitz gehört zu den größten Ruinenanlagen in Niederösterreich. Die mächtige Burganlage wird im 13.Jahrhundert erstmal urkundlich erwähnt. Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts wurde die Burg ausgebaut und modernisiert. Um das Jahr 1450 errichtete man in der Nähe der Burg, als vorgeschobene Verteidigungslinie, die „Böhmische Mauer“. Ab dem 18. Jahrhundert wurde die Burg nicht mehr bewohnt und gepflegt und die Mauern als Steinbruch genutzt, auch die noch vorhandenen Dächer wurden abgetragen, um der damaligen Dachsteuer zu entgehen. Die Befestigungsanlage war somit dem Verfall preisgegeben. Seit den 1970-er Jahren ist ein Burgverein um die Sicherung, Sanierung und Erhaltung der Burgruine bemüht und daher ist diese ehemalige Wehranlage, heute eine bestens gepflegte und unbedingt empfehlenswerte Sehenswürdigkeit. Impressive, imposing and extensive medieval castle ruins located high above the Thaya. Kollmitz is one of the largest ruins in Lower Austria. The mighty castle complex was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. The castle was expanded and modernized at the end of the 14th century. Around 1450 the “Bohemian Wall” was built near the castle as an advanced line of defence. From the 18th century the castle was no longer inhabited and maintained and the walls were used as a quarry, and the remaining roofs were also removed to avoid the roof tax of the time. The fortifications were thus left to decay. Since the 1970s, a castle association has been trying to secure, renovate and preserve the castle ruins, which is why this former fortification is now a well-maintained and highly recommended sight.
