Was diese Statue in den Händen hält, sieht aber nicht wie eine Flöte zum Imitieren von Vogelgezwitscher aus, und auch nicht wie ein Netz, das er zum Vögelfangen benötigt. Die Statue ist aber trotzdem recht interessant, weil sie durch ihre knabenhaften Proportionen tänzerisch-grazil wirkt. Auch die Kopfbedeckung des Papageno regt die Phantasie an, etwa in die Richtung an "Wald und Flur" oder "Wald und Haide" zu denken, denn ähnlich wie ein Robin Hood muss der Papageno auch, wenn er auf seiner Vogeljagd ins Schwitzen kommt, seine Haare ordentlich tragen, ja geschützt vor Geäst und Laub.
