Die Skulptur erinnert an die in der Schlacht gefallenen österreichischen Soldaten. Am 21. und 22. Mai 1809 fand vor den Toren Wiens die Schlacht bei Aspern und Eßling statt zwischen Napoleonischen Truppen und Österreichern unter dem Oberbefehl von Erzherzog Karl. Nach zähen Kämpfen sollte insgesamt neunmal das im Marchfeld gelegene Dorf Aspern während der Schlacht den Besitzer wechseln. In dieser Schlacht wurde Napoleon Bonaparte zum ersten Mal in einer offenen Feldschlacht besiegt, dadurch war sein Nimbus der absoluten Unüberwindlichkeit dahin. A place steeped in history. Nice sculpture by A. Fernkorn. A small museum is just behind it. In spring, beautiful flowers can be seen all around.

Die Statue ist sehr schön und gut erhalten und wird in der kalten Jahreszeit Frostsicher umhüllt The Lion of Aspern is perched on a busy road but is still a stop. The statue is very beautiful and well preserved and is covered with frost-proof cover in the cold season
