Here is my experience: My mother was a residence of Haus Rossau. She suffered a mental illness so it was difficult to gauge if her complaints were valid or not. She complained of inadequate care. One of her biggest complaints was that she, who was a pescatarian, was constantly being served meat. I called Haus Rossau from the USA and I was promised that most certainly my mom was not given meat. I did not know what to make of my mother's continued complaints especially about the menu served, until I went to Vienna to look for myself. The first day I arrived she was in fact served meat. I complained and got an apology and the dinner was switched out to a vegetarian meal. I hoped that would be the end of it, but no, despite continued requests my mother was not only served meat on numerous occasions, but also the food was not always mashed and my mother could not eat solid food. Nobody seemed to notice or care that she was not eating and loosing a lot of weight. My sister and I resorted to feeding my mother, something that did not seem to occur to the staff of Haus Rossau, even after my request that this is done. While my mother did live on the wrong floor and not on a care station, once she was approved for higher care by FSW, Haus Rossau was obligated to make sure my mother would receive the care assigned to her, regardless of her refusal to move to the lower floor care station. I do not feel that appropriate care was ever really given. My sister went to Vienna and a nurse there actually argued with her about changing the adult diapers and demonstrated how much water such a diaper could hold before it needed to be changed. Really? Think about that one.... Overall, most of the staff is very friendly but I would not consider Haus Rossau customer oriented or a great place for their geriatric clientele. Doors are way to heavy and residents have trouble opening the doors. Elevator buttons are placed way to high for anyone in a wheelchair to reach them. While there is front desk staff that strictly checks comings and goings, after 5:00pm it seems to be a free for all. I would not vouch for the place being a secure place. I witnessed one woman searching for dinner being ignored until I asked for assistance for her. On another occasion I stood outside and heard someone from the lower floors yelling for help and mercy and I was out there for 25 minutes. Apparently nobody came. The begging continued as I left. Anyway, I could go on, and on. I know many troubles my mom had were aggravated by her mental illness, but even if she was not suffering from this, I would not choose Haus Rossau for anyone who needs care. Requests for visits from a spiritual counselor were never followed up on. E-mails were not always responded to. When I looked to have paperwork filled out to move my mom to another location,it took a week to land with someone who would actually help. Not only was I told the other elderly home did not need the requested paperwork, I also received an e-mail by a staff member who seems to be offended that I reached out to someone else to get the requested paperwork. Haus Rossau is a great place for people who are able bodied and can fend for themselves. As soon as their residents have physical needs, I recommend finding a place that is more in tune with the needs of their clientele. While most of the staff at Haus Rossau is very nice, they seem to be simply overwhelmed with the daily tasks of taking care the elderly. I would like to leave a better, kinder, review, but my experience was sub par. My mother, who granted, was terminally ill, was dropped by a staff member and never ever recovered from that. :-( Mama RIP.
