★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I wont give a negative review but to anyone reading i will say this. Check with them before you make your way there as the night i went, cloudy weather meant we could not see anything and essentially the observatory was shut that night. So yeah, just give them a call

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kuffner Observatory
Lecture and tour of the historic observatory and (in good weather) an astronomical guided tour on the large telescope from 1886 with a view of the starry sky ...
On the Gallitzinberg in Vienna Ottakring there is an observatory dating from the Historicist period. It once belonged to a major industrialist of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and has retained its historic appearance to this day. The Kuffner Observatory houses an important collection of astronomical instruments from the 19th century. The telescopes were manufactured by the renowned companies "Repsold und Söhne" in Hamburg and "Steinheil" in Munich. The four telescopes, consisting of the Great Refractor, the Meridian Circle, the Vertical Circle and the Heliometer, were restored from 1993-2002 and newly adapted for educational and museum use.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is such a cool little place in Vienna to visit. If you’re going for observation, it’s only open for observation on occasion and if you’re planning on seeing some stars through the telescope make sure to pick a good day that’s not too cloudy at night, but a wonderful experience. The guide always gives a great lecture throughout the observation on the stars that night too, so definitely make sure to stay for the whole hour long observation.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a very underrated attraction in Vienna.
We visited the historical Observatory. The building has very authentic internals.
Your visit is going to be guided, and our guide has been very informative.
You will learn about the history of the observatory, the inner workings of the apparatuses and others like light pollution.
During my visit, we were unable to check the telescope due to windy and cloudy weather. I cannot comment on it.
Despite the late time on Sunday the guide showcased a surprisingly large enthusiasm, energy, and passion. The tour itself took about an hour. Well worth your time!
