Hundalm Eishöhle

Entertaining trip, even in bad weather ... because of our visit in August 2018, we had also proposed this at Google, which was then also published shortly thereafter. We were actually surprised that there was no entry in Google yet, because the Hundham ice cave is a nice idea for the holiday season, to make "program", even if the weather is not so optimal. The ascent is unproblematic and relatively short, so well feasible even with smaller children. The cave itself is guided, so no free entry possible. The small tour is worthwhile. A rain jacket, if you go out in the sunshine, is quite recommendable within the cave, since z.T. it's a bit damp, and it's fresher inside.

Great hospitable people! Friendly welcome and even a tour of the cottage. Then we got extra thick coats, a helmet and old-fashioned carbide lamps for the ice cave. The tour itself is short, but very personal and definitely worth it. Our guide explained the history and shape of the cave in slowly speaking German and always asked if everything was clear. This gave us everything. A bit of gymnastics is required. You sometimes have to crawl through small tunnels and there is no extra lighting (only from the carbide lamp). This makes the experience extra adventurous, but is less ideal for people with claustrophobia. The hike up (from the valley) is approximately 2 to 3 hours at a fast to normal pace. The route in the beginning is stylish and not super interesting, but after the Alm it becomes a beautiful hiking trail between the cows, mountains and forest.
