★ ★ ★ ★ ★ At this spot between 1794-1962 stood a house 'Zum blauen Einhorn' (blue unicorn), where Nikolaus Lenau (1802-1850), a famous austrian poet, once lived. Franz Carl Heimito, known as Heimito von Doderer (1896-1966), an austrian writer and a Nobel Prize nominee, used this landmark in his novel 'die Strudlhofstiege' to stand for an omen of a fated meeting of the main characters. In 1960s, a program of municipal house building led to reconstruction of local districts, so the house was removed and a new municipal building appeared. An original figure of the unicorn and a memorial table are the only signs to witness the history of this place.
