Building is wide, with courtyards and different areas. Noticeable the double spiral staircase, work of illusions.

Location: the walk up there is pretty nice, as you get to choose three streets to get there. You either pass the city park with its huge green gardens, you can come from the oldest street called 'Sporgasse' with lots of little local shops or you come from a small street which passes the mausoleum of King Ferdinand 2nd (an absolute must see, now that it has been renovated) and 'dome', which is the most important church in Graz with lots of history. Experience: at first it won't appear like something special and to be honest -> is is more of a hidden spot for locals. Once you walk through the gates and pass the famous spiral stairs 'Doppelwendetreppe', you reach a little sculpture of a Wallnut, sympolic for the core/center of the city. But if you keep walking straight ahead you'll get to a park, overlooking the city park. That's the actual 'chilling out' are for locals. It's a clean park, not very busy as most people don't know how to get there. And usually no tourists up here.

Amazing spiral staircase built between 1499 and 1500 in the reign of Emperor Maximilian the 1st. A must when visiting Graz.

Used to be a hallmark of late medieval and early Renaissance architecture. Though almost untouched by wars, the 19th and 20th centuries destroyed most of it - and only small parts of what is left are accessible to the public today (the outside view from the "court yards", mostly sporting modern buildings and modern facades and only rare glimpses of its past glory, and the double spiral staircase).

The only attraction to visit is the well known double spiral stairs in one of its towers. The rest of the building serves as the government's departments of the province of Steiermark.
