W	Wolf aus dem Sauerland on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cark Ritter von Ghega, der geniale Erbauer der Semmeringbahn, hat sowohl dieses Denkmal als auch die prächtige Grabstelle auf dem Wiener Zentralfriedhof voll und ganz verdient!. Höchst interessant ist die „Geschichte“ des Denkmals am Bahnhof: „1869, neun Jahre nach dem Tod Ghegas, lässt der Österreichische Ingenieur- und Architektenverein am Bahnhof Semmering ein Denkmal errichten. Das schlechte Gewissen rührt aus dem Jahre 1849, als man sich in einer Publikation vehement gegen die Errichtung einer Adhäsionseisenbahn für diese Strecke aussprach" (Wolfgang Straub, Karl Ritter von Geiger, Wien 2004, Seite 216). Auch das Grabmal auf dem Zentralfriedhof ist meines Wissens der Versuch einer Wiedergutmachung. Cark Ritter von Ghega, the ingenious builder of the Semmering Railway, fully deserved both this monument and the magnificent grave site in Vienna's central cemetery !. The “history” of the memorial at the train station is extremely interesting: “In 1869, nine years after Ghega's death, the Austrian Association of Engineers and Architects had a memorial erected at the Semmering train station. K	Kim Koch Rasmussen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice memorial for the architect behind the Semmering mountain line. It is pretty impressive, and you can also see a old train wagon. It is right at the station, so easy to reach. Remember to also visit the free exhibition in the train station itself.
