Inconspicuous and idyllically located, small (reservation!). Kitchen very, very good, service courteous, confident, wine pairing very well selected for the dish.

Ein kleines, feines Restaurant.
Der freundliche, aufgestellte Gastgeber (Ober/Restaurantfachmann/Restaurantleiter möchte ich Ihn nicht nennen, denn das trifft es bei weitem nicht.) begrüsste uns herzlich und kümmerte sich um jeden Gast. Sei es Getränkeempfehlung oder Speisenempfehlung. Also einen grossen Dank.
In meinen Augen ein wunderbares Diner, angefangen mit einem kleinen Gruss aus der küche, in Form einer hausgemachten, frischen Quiche, selbstgebackenen Brötchen und Butter.
Gefolgt von einer kleinen Vorspeise mit rosa gebratenen Entenbrusttranchen auf einem frischen Linsensalat, über das, meiner Meinung nach, perfekt gebratene Reh (aus der Region) der Hauptspeise mit einem hausgemachtem Jus, Blaukraut, locker-luftigen Pilzbuchteln und allerlei Gemüse.
Als Abschluss frische Topfenknöderl mit rotem Beeren-Kirschragout.
Wir kommen sicher und gerne wieder.

A small, fine restaurant.
The friendly, friendly host (head / restaurant specialist / restaurant manager, I don't want to name him, because that doesn't apply by any means.) Greeted us warmly and took care of every guest. Be it a drink recommendation or a meal recommendation. So a big thank you.
In my opinion, a wonderful dinner, starting with a small greeting from the kitchen, in the form of a homemade, fresh quiche, homemade rolls and butter.
Followed by a small starter with pink fried duck breast slices on a fresh lentil salad, over the, in my opinion, perfectly fried roe deer (from the region) of the main course with a homemade jus, red cabbage, fluffy mushrooms and all kinds of vegetables.
Finally, fresh curd dumplings with red berry-cherry ragout.
We'll definitely come back again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Vorarlberg (or Bregenzerwald) is a special place when it comes to good cuisine.
For such a rural area, it has a lot - a lot - of great and special restaurants that serve fantastic food with a high quality standard.
The "Alte Mühle" (Old Mill) is one of the highlights here.
For generations, the people here have produced and produce high quality food that doesn't need to shy aways from Top Addresses in Vienna or other large cities in Europe.
The ingredients are mostly local - you can often visit the places where your food comes from either beforehand or afterwards by just driving around the countryside - the wine cellar is precise with only a few wines but each of them a joy and the service is grounded and super friendly.
If you are lucky and you can come here in the summer, the outside area is set in a cosy little garden and in winter or during bad weather, the inside invites with a warm albeit oldschool interior.
When we are in the area, a visit to the "Alte Mühle" is always a given. Prices are high (compared to regular restaurants) but moderate for a 3-4 course menu in "Hauben" (the Austrian Michelin star equivalent) quality.
Only downsides: Limited vegetarian selection.
