Juni 1882 nach Johann Georg Elterlein (1805–1882) benannt, einem Gastwirt, der die Unterhaltungsstätten Casino Unger und das Elterleins Casino besaß. An der Stelle des ehemaligen „Elterleins Casinos“ etwa 700 m östlich des Elterleinplatzes befindet sich heute die U-Bahn-Station (früher Stadtbahnstation) Alser Straße der Linie U6. Weiters war Elterlein Bürgermeister von Hernals (1869–1881) in der Zeit vor der Eingemeindung des damaligen Vororts nach Wien 1892. Elterleinplatz is a square in the central part of Vienna's 17th district of Hernals. It has been named after Johann Georg Elterlein (1805–1882), an innkeeper who owned the entertainment venues Casino Unger and Elterleins Casino, since the decision of the Hernals community on June 26, 1882. At the site of the former “Elterlein Casino”, about 700 m east of Elterleinplatz, there is now the U6 underground station (formerly the Stadtbahn station) Alser Straße. Furthermore, Elterlein was mayor of Hernals (1869–1881) in the period before the suburb was incorporated into Vienna in 1892.
