★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Die Burgruine befindet sich oberhalb des Schosses Weidenburg im Südosten der Gemeinde Kötschach-Mauthen und war im Mittelalter ein wichtiger Stützpunkt zur Kontrolle des Gailtals und für die Herrschaft in Oberkärnten.
Die Geschichte der Weidenburg reicht bis ins 13. Jahrhundert zurück und wurde vermutlich um 1200 auf einem nach Süden und Osten steil abfallenden Felssporn errichtet. Seit dem 18. Jahrhundert verfiel die Burg und so sind heute lediglich mehr Reste der ehemaligen Burganlage vorhanden.
 The castle ruins are located above the lap Weidenburg in the southeast of the municipality Kötschach-Mauthen and was in the Middle Ages an important base to control the Gail Valley and for the rule in Upper Carinthia.
The history of Weidenburg dates back to the 13th century and was probably built around 1200 on a steeply sloping rocky spur to the south and east. Since the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair and so today only more remains of the former castle are available.
