Nach einem Großbrand im Jahr 1590 wurden die Schäden an der Offenburg nicht mehr behoben und so verkam sie zur Ruine. Die heute noch vorhandenen bescheidenen Reste der einst stolzen Feste liegen etwa 300 m über dem Talboden bei Unterkurzheim. Von der eigentlich Hauptburg sind nur noch spärliche Reste vorhanden , jedoch ist der freistehende und dominierende Bergfried mit seiner imposanten Höhe von 18 Metern noch recht gut erhalten. Besonders markant ist, dass sich der Einstieg in den Turm 10 Meter über den Boden befindet. Auch die Holzbalken und Rundhölzer für die Bodenkonstruktion, welche von innen nach außen durch das gesamte Mauerwerk führen sind noch erhalten und gut sichtbar. Für entdeckungsfreudige ein spannendes Unterfangen, im Wald und dicht wuchernden Unterholz nach den verborgenen Ruinenresten Ausschau zu halten. The castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century. After a major fire in 1590, the damage to the Offenburg was no longer fixed and so they became a ruin. The still existing modest remains of the once proud festivals are located about 300 m above the valley floor at Unterkurzheim. From the actually main castle only sparse remains are present, however the freestanding and dominating keep with its impressive height of 18 meters is still quite well preserved. Particularly striking is that the entrance to the tower is 10 meters above the ground. The wooden beams and round timber for the floor construction, which lead from the inside to the outside through the entire masonry are still preserved and clearly visible. For the adventurous, an exciting venture to look out for the hidden remains of ruins in the forest and thick undergrowth.
