★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Die Burg Königstein, im Volksmund auch "Ecker-G`schloß" genannt, wurde im Jahre 1410 erbaut. Den Namen Königstein erhilt sie, da mit dem Bau am Dreikönigstag begonnen wurde.
1436 wurde Königstein, aufgrund ständiger Streitigkeiten von einem 1.500 Mann starkem Heer und unter starkem Beschuss gestürmt und gänzlich zerstört.
Die Ruine befindet sich auf einem Hangsporn, hoch über dem Tal des Kösselbaches in der Gemeinde Freinberg, Bezirk Schärding und rund 5 km von der Stadt Passau entfernt.
Die Reste der Ruine sind stark verwachsen und es Bedarf einiges an Spürsinn um die nur noch wenigen Mauerreste aufzufinden. Auch der Stumpf des runden Bergfriedes (er wurde in den 1970ern freigelegt) und ein fast bis zur Decke mit Schutt gefüllter Kellerraum sind noch gut erkennbar.
 Königstein Castle, also known locally as the "Ecker-G`schloß", was built in 1410. It was given the name Königstein because construction began on Epiphany.
In 1436, due to constant disputes, Königstein was stormed and completely destroyed by an army of 1,500 men and under heavy fire.
The ruin is located on a slope high above the valley of the Kösselbach in the municipality of Freinberg, district of Schärding and around 5 km from the city of Passau.
The remains of the ruin are strongly overgrown and it takes a lot of intuition to find the few remains of the wall. The stump of the round keep (it was uncovered in the 1970s) and a basement room filled almost to the ceiling with rubble are still clearly visible.
