★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice view, delicious food (best Wienerschnitzel ever!)
The castle in this artsy town looks very interesting by itself and the huge (but very un-castle-like) sign lets you know that there is a restaurant inside, which you owe to yourself to visit when in the area. The food is very well prepared and local - for example, they get the bio goat cheese from a local farmer, she goes by the name mrs. Sima. The farmer, not the goat. I think. The king of the menu is of course the world famous Austrian national dish - the Wienerschnitzel. Wikipedia says it is 'a type of schnitzel made of a thin, breaded, pan-fried veal cutlet'. But what Wikipedia does not say is that the one made at the Alte Burg will almost melt in your mouth and send your taste buds on a crazy trip, from the first bite you take to the last, leaving you wondering "why didn't I order the double portion?". Well, you read this review so maybe you won't make the same mistake I did. Because I'll just have to go back there and have another one.
Oh, my girlfriend ate "Spätzle", a local kind of soft egg noodle. She said was delicious too. If you're a vegetarian. Otherwise, go for the schnitzel.
The desserts were really good as well! As for the drink - Holler Radler (beer with elderflower juice) is the perfect thing for the summer thirst!
And enjoy the schnitzel! :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The view from the balcony is very nice, overlooks most of Gmund. Lovely local made traditional pasta (vegetarian and vegan option) and good beer selection.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An intersting stop-by, once you want to taste a little bit of history and interesting "iron-art" sculptures. Nice view of the town, Porsche museum 'next block'.
