Die Bronzestatue zeigt Graf Hugo XII. von Montfort, halb kniend Harfe spielend. Als angesehener Politiker bekleidete er verschiedene Verwaltungsämter und war zugleich Verfasser lyrisch-didaktischer Dichtungen. Eine eher ungewöhnliche Kombination von Politik und Minnegesang. Sein Ruhm beruhte allerdings auf seinen Fähigkeiten in der Politik. Die ästhetisch gelungene Skulptur ist, vergleicht man sie mit einem Fresko seines Porträts, eine annähernde Gestaltung, die ihn sympathisch darstellt. Die Skulptur steht in einem mehreckigen Brunnen auf einer Säule, der eine passende Umrahmung bietet. It is a beautiful fountain located in a lovely setting on the hill of the Bregenz Upper Town. The bronze statue shows Count Hugo XII. von Montfort, half kneeling playing the harp. As a respected politician, he held various administrative offices and was also the author of lyrical and didactic poems. A rather unusual combination of politics and minneg singing. The aesthetically successful sculpture is, if you compare it with a fresco of his portrait, an approximate design that represents him sympathetically. The sculpture stands in a polygonal fountain on a column that provides a suitable frame.
