Der Steig kann nicht als "überversichert" bezeichnet werden, die Versicherungen sind jedoch ausreichend. Zunächst folgt man den roten Marken der Wildfährte über die gestufte Einstiegsrinne und eine kurze ausgesetzte Querung. Nach einer Scharte und einer erdigen Rinne folgt eine Weggabelung, wo man den linken gruen bezeichneten Weg nimmt. Kurzer Abstieg und sofortiger Wiederaufstieg durch eine Rinne, der darauffolgenden Kamin verlangt etwas Geschicklichkeit, zuletzt Abstieg durch eine Rinne ins Bärenlochkar. Nach dem Ende der Versicherungen führt der Steig durch ein Felsentor in den Bärengraben, durch den man dann auf die Hochfläche gelangt. Auf dieser angelangt, gibt es mehrere Möglichkeiten: Bei der Wegkreuzung geht es geradeaus zum Karl-Ludwig-Haus, nach rechts zur Grasbodenalm und nach links zum Habsburghaus.
