★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We have had an extremely disappointing experience with this organization in Austria, as they were not able to manage a change of host family request. Far than trying to help our 15 years old son, he felt first abandoned and then pushed by AFS Austria employees. I think they don’t have enough host families for the programs they offer. Not recommendable at all.

I can really recommend AFS to future exchange students.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I spent a year abroad in Hong Kong with Afs and it was an experience that I can only recommend. Afs made it possible for me to learn many new things, to connect with so many different people from all around the world during and after my exchange year and basically to receive a second home and family. Of course there were a few difficulties that I had to face during my year abroad but I received great support from Afs through camps in Austria and Hong Kong and my local support contact. It was such an amazing experience and I'm really happy to be part of the global Afs community now!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ As per our experience I could never recommend to choose AFS.
By the way, and according to AFS Team replies to prior reviews, I don't know which "common agreements" were broken by my son or our family. Obviously, I do know the (unilateral) "necessary consequences" you mention.
Thus, I would be grated if someone in your organization could contact me on a private way to inform me about this particular, as our experience with AFS' communication during the last 10 months has been extremely bad.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My nephew has been in Austria with this organization recently and we could define AFS management as awful. His host family’s house was really far from his school and, when he requested a change of host family, they did not take his request into account at all, and they even tried to convince him to stay. They did not move at all in five weeks and they even tried to blame him of arriving late to school, when he spent almost 90 minutes commuting. When sending teenagers abroad I would recommend professional organizations.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I put all my illusion preparing myself for five months for an extraordinary experience one year abroad. I did all the job while AFS did not find me a host family. I kept on doing efforts not to get down when I was informed by AFS that my permanent host family was finally temporary. I followed the internal rules asking for a new host family while spending 3 hours a day commuting. I felt pushed by two AFS adults to sign a document. I was sent back home with no explanation of the rules I, eventually, broke. Thanks, AFS.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had a great time before, during and after my exchange as the support AFS provides locally and in my exchange country was excellent!
I felt well prepared and learned a lot during the many camps! I got individual support as well from my local AFS chapter and my school!
My host family was also really nice and I am still in contact with them today!
