A small steam locomotive that brings the charm of yesteryear, a jerky but romantic tour over hill and dale. Views that let you look far into the distance and through the forest, the nature to feel close to touch. Even crosses on small trails warn of the railroad crossing for those who could overlook the small tracks ... a fun you just treat yourself because on the whole route are paparazzi who want to scan the small steam locomotive, children's eyes marvel at what the steaming thing is there ... others are waving from passing cars as well as pedestrians who are obviously thrilled to see the Nostalgic steam locomotive in action. The price is not cheap but to maintain such a museum piece also to find the tracks and drivers with the training is not easy, even the seasonal operation .. is only a short time to earn the money ... if these old sweethearts are no longer available, you are only in museums and no one knows how to ride ... I think its worth it !

Super nice tour with the Achenseebahn. The journey from Jenbach takes about 50 minutes to the Achensee the return journey about 40 minutes. A return trip costs 31 € per person which is perfectly adequate for the route! Once at the top you get out directly at the Achensee.

For more than 128 years the train has been going up the steep mountain from Jenbach to Achensee. The small steam locomotives belong to the oldest exclusively steam-powered rack railway in Europe. Authentic locomotives with lots of steam and whistles run through small villages, across the streets and through the forest. Is a great and unique experience. It's always worth it! So much fun is not to be missed.

Amazing journey with old antique train powered by steam engine surrounded by beautiful mountains and lush trees.

probably the only terrible experience i've had in my entire Tyrolean stay. the 50+ min ride is extremely shaky, slow and nausea-inducing. if you must take it, don't book any group tickets lest you want to be forced into a tiny stuffy compartment (the individual ticket holder compartments are at least open and airy. you cannot switch even if there's barely any indiv. passengers).

Some people it seems (based on the reviews) just like to complain. Come on, the train is from 150 years ago. Its a nice and interesting way to take you to achensee. Is it on the expensive side? Sure, but you will not get the view and experience anyone else. For people complaining about stuffy compartments? The hell do you expect? Its an old train. Come on.

Very beautiful old cockwheel steam train. I just love the locomotives. The scenery along the railway is beautiful as well. Prices are quite high, but considering the maximum low number of passengers they are understandable.

Starting at Jenbach station (also where the narrow gauge Zillertalbahn terminates) and climbing up to Lake Achensee this rack railway is a real throwback to years gone by. Don't expect first class comfort, the seating is basic but authentic wood benches but do expect a charming ride up the mountain side through wooded landscape and passing through the odd village up to the spectacular Lake Achensee, pushed and pulled by a little steam locomotive. Takes around 50 mins, so if you want comfort and speed to the lake then the road is the way to go, otherwise sit back and let nostalgia wash over you.
