★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Die spärlichen Überreste der ehemaligen Burg Möstling befinden sich nahe des Weilers Möstling (Neumarkt im Mühlkreis) auf einem Höhenrücken oberhalb der Kleinen Gusen welche hier Schleife bildet.
Es bedarf etwas Spürsinn um die im Wald verborgenen und von Pflanzen überwucherten Mauerreste aufzufinden.
Von der Burg und ihren Anfängen gibt es leider keine historischen Quellen und der Name der ehemaligen Feste dürfte neuzeitlichen Ursprungs sein. Die genaue Vermessung der Anlage zeigt eine Größe von über 60 Meter in Ost-West Richtung , gegliedert auf zwei Terrassen und es ist daher anzunehmen , dass diese keines Falls Sitz eines Angehörigen des Niederadels gewesen sein kann.
Bereits 1499 wird die Burg Möstling urkundlich als Ruine bezeichnet.
Auch wenn über die Geschichte der Burg vieles im Dunkel der Jahrhunderte verborgen bleibt und die vorhanden Reste sehr bescheiden ausfallen, ist der Besuch dieser Stätte für den Liebhaber alter Mauern sicherlich lohnenswert
The sparse remains of the former Möstling Castle are located near the hamlet of Möstling (Neumarkt im Mühlkreis) on a ridge above the Kleine Gusen, which forms a loop here.
It takes a little intuition to find the remains of the wall hidden in the forest and overgrown by plants.
Unfortunately, there are no historical sources of the castle and its beginnings and the name of the former fortress is likely to be of modern origin. The exact measurement of the complex shows a size of over 60 meters in an east-west direction, divided into two terraces and it can therefore be assumed that this could not have been the seat of a member of the lower nobility.
As early as 1499, Möstling Castle was officially designated as a ruin.
Even if a lot about the history of the castle remains hidden in the darkness of the centuries and the remains are very modest, a visit to this site is certainly worthwhile for lovers of old walls
